Everyone hates karela. Every Child as well as adults frown, the moment they see this vegetable served on their plates. The reason of this hatred is the bitterness of this vegetable . Last night i was reading an article in a news website, The article was so nicely written that i got hooked up after reading the first line. When i was finished with reading the article my heart was full of praise for the writer and i scrolled down to write a comment for thanking the writer for such a nice piece of writing but while i was doing this something more amazing happened. Some else has commented before me but it was not about the article itself but sort of continuance to the article.<br />

It has been more than a week since Typhoon Haiyan devastated much of the central Philippines, the damages and death toll is way overwhelming. Apart from thousands of fatalities millions of people are displaced by the Typhoon in Philippines who are still waiting for rescue and relief .<br />

Although hundreds of aid workers from all over the world have arrived in the hard hit provinces of Philippines but the devastation is too much to tackle within weeks , even months. Some of the residents and relief workers who would typically have provided aid found themselves needing help. Many of those who had helped with recovery efforts in the past were this time in no position to help others immediately -- they stayed alive by clinging to rafters in their barracks. Some even clutched a palm tree's trunk for survival.<br />

Just within few hours on Friday, Typhoon Haiyan completely rendered desolate many parts of the central Philippines. According to several reports It was one of the strongest storms in the history of Philippines. <br />

<li>A person with diabetes usually visits the doctor every 3 months. This time period is too long to track blood pressure trends. Pre-hypertension could change to hypertension.</li>
<li>It is difficult to know if your blood pressure medication is doing the job for you if not checked on a regular basis; you may need medication adjustments prior to the 3 month visit.</li>
<li>Testing blood pressure at home gives you a sense of participation in your own health care.</li>
<li>It could reduce co-pays for possible extra visits to the physician if monitoring is done at home.</li>
<li>You could have white coat hypertension and only exhibit high numbers at the physician’s office.</li>
<li>You may have masked hypertension which means your blood pressure is fine at the office when seated and calm and out of control at home. Some reasons for masked hypertension are stress, hydration, caffeine, alcohol, smoking, exercise as well as outside or bodily temperature changes.</li>
<li>Blood pressure readings at home predict cardiovascular disease more accurately than office readings.</li>

<li>Know about your sodium, calcium, potassium and magnesium intake; they are all connected to your blood pressure.</li>

<li>Get a digital cuff that wraps around your arm and inflates with a button. There are products with finger and wrist devices but they are less accurate due to body position as well as body temperature. Make sure the cuff fits properly. <li>Stick to one arm and if possible use the left arm which is closer to your heart.</li>
<li>Keep arm bent at heart level to be most accurate. Sit upright with feet flat on the floor.</li>
<li>Always keep a record of your results to fax, e-mail or take to your physician.</li>
<li>Test at varying times of the day: Monday when getting up, Wednesday during the middle of a hectic day and Friday prior to bed. Make your own schedule that works for you but mix it up.</li>
<li>Do not rely on free public machines. They are only for average arm sizes and may not be giving you correct results.</li>

Some of them are threats, like that of atomic or nuclear Wars which may or may not happen , some are related to Racism and religions which may effect cities or countries at a particular point in time but The biggest and eminent threat to the world is of Global warming and cutting trees is one of the leading causes of that.<br />

Trees provides us with fresh air as they consumes carbon-dioxide and synthesize Oxygen. They add to the beauty of the Planet and even the feeling of looking at lush green trees is just Great.<br />

During the past few decades , trees have been cut at a tremendous pace , most of the mountains which were once jungles are now bare.  We really need to counter this cutting of trees and everyone has to play a part in it.<br />

I am playing my part in this campaign by writing this article and not only writing this article but i have just planted over 200 populus trees in the past two days.<br />
<span style="color: #999999;"> </span> <strong>Why Populus , Safaida or Aspen?</strong> Because Its the easiest to plant, and these days (Month of February) is the best time to plant Populus and the top reason for selecting Populus  سفیدہ for plantation is that these tree are the fastest growing trees. You would have a nice big tree within two to three years after plantation.<br />

 <strong>What to do?</strong> Look for a Populus tree سفیدہ somewhere nearby and cut some small branches of it. Then select a place where you are going to plant those branches. Now If the soil is soft you can just insert the cut end of the branch into the soil otherwise you can make a hole either by digging or by taking a hammer and a metal rod and dig a hole equal to the size of the branch and then put the branch in that hole. Thats it. If  you plant it in the begining of february  then you dont need to water it as the soil is already wet due to winter rains but if you plant in march then you might need to water it two or three times .<br />

Study at USC in Los Angeles and the Gaslini in Genoa: 48 hours of caloric restriction resulted in effectively reducing the size of tumor and the side effects of Chemotherapy<br /><br />Only forty-eight hours of fasting along with sufficient water intake proved to be beneficial in increasing the validity of chemotherapy and preventing recurrence. This was the result of a study being published in Science Translational Medicine and conducted by researchers led by Valter Longo, director of the Institute of Longevity at the University of Southern California, Los Angeles, with colleagues in the Laboratory of Oncology, Gaslini Institute Gianna Genova, directed by Vito Pistoia.<br /><br />The study revealed that the same benefits – or the slow progression of cancer – can be achieved through molecular strategies that simulate fasting. The question is, what is the mechanism of action that promotes the effect of drugs on malignant cells but protects normal cells?<br /><br />Ten years ago, Longo used the calorie restriction technique (fasting) in animal models, as a tool to enhance the effects of chemotherapy on tumor cells and effectively protect normal cells from the adverse effect of chemotherapy as well as the fasting. Now the answer to why did the fasting resulted hazardous to the tumor cells only and did not effect the normal cells is that tumor cells are multiplied in an uncontrolled way and does not respond to any signal that tries to stop them from growing. In contrast, the normal cell stops proliferation and enters into a self-protection state.<br />

In a paper published in 2008 by Longo with Raffaghello it has been shown that a caloric restriction (48 hour fast prior to administration of chemotherapy) protects normal cells but not tumor cells in an animal model of neuroblastoma, which is a pediatric cancer with often poor prognosis. ”In other words –  Pistoia explains - the mechanism allows  to distinguish friendly cells from enemy ones. Cancer is like an army of traitors difficult to combat, as they have the same uniform of our soldiers (normal cells). The strategy developed, works by equipping our soldiers to a ‘magic shield’ that protects them from enemies and differentiates ‘traitors.”<br /><br />It was yet to be established whether fasting ( ie caloric restriction) could make cancer cells more sensitive to chemotherapy. The answer came right from the trial that just ended, conducted in several preclinical models of pediatric and adult tumors. It showed that 48 hours of pre-treatment fasting  is not only effective in making cancer cells more vulnerable to the effects of chemo but also delays the progression of the tumor itself. A clinical trial on “therapeutic and protective” fasting   in cancer patients is already underway in some overseas and Europeans centers .<br /><br />Currently, the preliminary results of a study of 10 patients who underwent fasting before administration of anti-cancer drugs, revealed a clear reduction of side effects due to chemo. Similar results emerge from a phase 1 clinical study conducted at the Norris Cancer Center of Los Angeles. Pistoia adds that ”The new study, besides confirming this fact shows that fasting in itself carries antineoplastic action and not only this but the Fasting may also prove effective in reducing the incidence of secondary tumors, independent of the original one and also reduce the toxicity associated with chemotherapy. “</div>
